Great New Song

I haven't posted lyrics I love lately, so here's the latest...this is Anna Nalick, and I absolutely love this song!!

2 Am and she calls me cause I'm still awake
Can you help me unravel my latest mistake
I don't love him and winter just wasn't my season.
Yea we walk through the doors so accusing their eyes
Like they have any right at all to criticize
Hypocrites you're all here for the very same reason.

Cause you can't jump the track We're like cars on a cable and life's like an hourglass glued to the table, No one can find the rewind button girl So just cradle your head in your hands. And breathe, just breathe, whoa breathe just breathe

May he turned 21 on the base of Fort Bliss
Just today he sat down to the flask in his fist
Ain't been sober since maybe October of last year
Here in town you can tell he's been down for while
But my God it's so beautiful when the boy smiles
Wanna hold him but maybe I'll just sing about it

Cause you can't jump the track We're like cars on a cable And life's like an hourglass glued to the table, No one can find the rewind button boys so cradle your head in your hands And breathe, just breathe, whoa breath just breathe
There's a light at the end of this tunnel you shout cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out And these mistakes you've made You'll just make them again if you'll only try turnin' around

2 Am and I'm still awake writing this song
If i get it all down on paper it's no lonmger inside of me threaten' the life it belongs to.
And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd
Cause these words are my diary screamin' out aloud
And I know that you'll use them however you want to.

But you can't jump the track
We're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass glued to the table,
No one can find the rewind button now
Sing it if you understand...yeah breath
Just breathe, ohho breathe

ICE your cell phone

I got the email below from a friend and did a little research.  This is too easy and could save your life.  Please link to this or post yourself so we can spread the word!

Subject: In case of emergency - ICE

Paramedics will turn to a victim's cell phone for clues to that person's identity. You can make their job much easier with a simple idea that they are trying to get everyone to adopt: ICE.

ICE stands for In Case of Emergency. If you add an entry in the contacts list in your cell phone under ICE, with the name and phone no. of the person that the emergency services should call on your behalf, you can save them a lot of time and have your loved ones contacted quickly.. It only takes a few moments of your time to do.

Paramedics know what ICE means and they look for it immediately. ICE your cell phone NOW!

The Marine

A friend at work passed this on...I did a little research on the net and found the information linked at the bottom...it's a neat story.

This is a poem being sent from a Marine to his Dad.
For those who take the time to read it, you'll see a letter from
him to his Dad at the bottom. It makes you truly thankful
for not only the Marines, but ALL of our troops.

The Marine

We all came together,
Both young and old
To fight for our freedom,
To stand and be bold.

In the midst of all evil,
We stand our ground,
And we protect our country
From all terror around.

Peace and not war,
Is what some people say.
But I'll give my life,
So you can live the American way.

I give you the right
To talk of your peace.
To stand in your groups,
and protest in our streets.

But still I fight on,
I don't bitch, I don't whine.
I'm just one of the people
Who is doing your time.

I'm harder than nails,
Stronger than any machine.
I'm the immortal soldier,
I'm a U.S. MARINE!

So stand in my shoes,
And leave from your home.
Fight for the people who hate you,
With the protests they've shown.

Fight for the stranger,
Fight for the young.
So they all may have,
The greatest freedom you've won.

Fight for the sick,
Fight for the poor.
Fight for the cripple,
Who lives next door.

But when your time comes,
Do what I've done.
For if you stand up for freedom,
You'll stand when the fight's done.

USS SAIPAN, PERSIAN GULF

Hey Dad,

Do me a favor and label this "The Marine" and send it to
everybody on your email list. Even leave this letter in it. I
want this rolling all over the US; I want every home reading
it. Every eye seeing it. And every heart to feel it. So can you
please send this for me? I would but my email  time isn't that
long and I don't have much time anyway. You know what Dad?
I wondered what it would be like to truly understand what JFK
said in His inaugural speech.

"When the time comes to lay down my life for my country,
I do not cower from this responsibility. I welcome it."

Well, now I know. And I do. Dad, I welcome the opportunity
to do what I do. Even though I have left behind a beautiful
wife, and I will miss the birth of our first born child, I would
do it 70 times over to fight for the place that God has made
for my home.  I love you all and I miss you very much. I wish
I could be there when Sandi has our baby, but tell her that I
love her, and Lord willing, I will be coming home soon. Give
Mom a great big hug from me and give one to yourself too.
Aaron

If this touched you as much as it touched me, please forward it on.
Let's help Aaron's dad spread the word ...

FREEDOM isn't FREE
.. someone pays for you and me.

Oh my aching head

So we took K out last night...we don't work with her anymore, but that doesn't mean we don't love her...and of course we'll still drink with her...but anyway, this morning I am reminded of the part in Mr. Deeds where John Turturro's "very sneaky" butler brings Adam Sandler some aspirin and says "Here take an aspirin. They make your head seem smaller."  My head seems very large this morning, and I don't mean that in the egotistical way...  Bleh...

Lance Armstrong is my hero.  I'm hooked on the Tour De France, even watching it at 5:30 in the morning.  I never imagined that cycling would be interesting, but there really is a lot to it, and the teamwork is amazing!  I'm sure everyone knows Lance's story, recovering from cancer to become one of the best (OK, the best) cyclist in the world, raising more than $50 million dollars for cancer research through the LiveStrong foundation (see link to the LAF at left), and generally being an all around great person, there is just something about him that I just really admire...check out the website!

Bird's-Eye View

My company makes precise timing products, some of which are used by Nasa to coordinate the shuttle launches.  During the latest launch countdown, US Air Force F-15 Eagle Jetfighters helped to provide air cover over Kennedy Space Center and the shuttle launch pad against terrorist attacks.  These pictures were sent to one of our customer service guys from a contact at Nasa.

Mensa Invitational

This came from my friend K, who I will miss at work very much…Remember, dear that you were a friend AND a coworker and that I never fire my friends!  I love you, man!  J

The Washington Post's Mensa Invitational once again asked readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter, and supply a new definition.

Here are this year's winners:

Intaxication: Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with.

Reintarnation: Coming back to life as a hillbilly.

Bozone (n.): The substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. The bozone layer, unfortunately, shows little sign of breaking down in the near future.

Foreploy: Any misrepresentation about yourself for the purpose of getting laid.

Cashtration (n.): The act of buying a house, which renders the subject financially impotent for an indefinite period.

Giraffiti: Vandalism spray-painted very, very high.

Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn't get it.

Inoculatte: To take coffee intravenously when you are running late.

Hipatitis: Terminal coolness.

Osteopornosis: A degenerate disease. (This one got extra credit.)

Karmageddon: It's like, when everybody is sending off all these really bad vibes, right? And then, like, the Earth explodes and it's like, a serious bummer.

Decafalon (n.): The grueling event of getting through the day consuming only things that are good for you.

Glibido: All talk and no action.

Dopeler effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.

Arachnoleptic fit (n.): The frantic dance performed just after you've accidentally walked through a spider web.

Beelzebug (n.): Satan in the form of a mosquito, that gets into your bedroom at three in the morning and cannot be cast out.

Caterpallor (n.): The color you turn after finding half a worm in the fruit you're eating.

And the pick of the literature:

Ignoranus: A person who's both stupid and an asshole.

OK, I finally just decided to take a few minutes to do this, as I was so happy to get this from ButterflyLane!  So here…

What is the total number of books you own?

I have enough paperbacks that the idea of packing them all to move is freaking me out.  There is a great place to trade them here, though…but then I have to get more!  J

What is the last book you bought?

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince for my son (and me, I admit it), due to arrive in a week or so, and the book by Hal Moore on which the movie “We Were Soldiers” was based.

What is the last book you read?

Hmmm…I just finished “A Thousand Acres” by Jane Smiley.  It was about three sisters of a farming family in the Midwest and pretty good.  I am also re-reading Patricia Cornwell’s latest couple of books…

Five books that mean a lot to you?

The Stand by Stephen King.  This is a fantastic book, and I dare anyone that thinks of King as strictly a horror writer to read it and not change their minds.

The Dark Tower Series by Stephen King.  Reading this series is like wandering in a big house where all the rooms connect and sometimes you can open a door and find someone you knew in the past, and other times you open a door and its to another world all together.  And if I mention those, I have to include The Talisman and Black House by Stephen King and Peter Straub because they are also a big part of the story.

The Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom.  This really made me think about the affect that little things can have on your life and the lives of those around you.

There are so many that come to mind that I’ll just list a few others that I really love:  Midnight In the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt, anything by Robert B. Parker, Tom Clancy’s Debt of Honor and Without Remorse, Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta series…I could go on…

I hope it’s not too late to tag someone…
