The Second Coming

WB Yeats

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

Another Cool Song

Having my headphones on all the time, I seem to relate my life more to music lately...here's another great song

Beautifully Broken  - Gov't Mule
mysterious
blown in with the night
all this beauty captured in a frame
visibly shaken but never stirred
drives them insane
i see the way she plays her men - and i know i've got to know her name

she's so beautifully broken
shaped by the wind
dangerously twisted
here i go again

i see the way she casts her spell
it's like drowning in moonlight
discards them when she's done
they're lost in her twilight
i watch her move from star to star and i wonder why
why it feels so right

she's so beautifully broken
you can barely see the flaw
especially from a distance
which is always how i fall

why do i fall for the dangerous ones
the ones that never learned to let go
and why do i lie to myself and pretend thati can break her
when she's already been so beautifully broken

why do i fall for the dangerous ones
the ones that don't know how to let go
and why do i lie to myself and pretend that i can break her
when she's already been so beautifully broken

she's so beautifully broken - shaped by the wind
dangerously twisted
here i go again
here i go again

Shock and Awe

I have to say that I'm pretty surprised at the results of the Presidential poll so far.  Granted there are only 10 votes, but out of those 10, only one is for Kerry.  Given the way that the rest of the nation seems to be going http://www.pollingreport.com/wh04gen.htm, Kerry is a front runner.  But I have to say that there is something about him, and I don't mean his stances on anything, just HIM, that really makes me nervous.  I feel like Johnny must have when he first shook Greg Stillson's hand, not quite the Apocalypse, but he makes me NERVOUS...then there's John Edwards, who seems like he could very happily send the country to hell in a liberal handbasket...But that's just my opinion!

And Now For Something Completely Different

The Yeats poem below has always been one of my favorites, and it is never more appropriate than in an election year!  But I realized after I posted it that my last two posts have been rather down, not keeping in line with the wacky jokes, etc of before.  But never fear, I am coming back to the era of good times and noodle salad...but now I'm out of time...

Sign of the Times?

"Stupid"
Sarah McLachlan

Night lift up the shades
let in the brilliant light of morning
but steady there now
for I am weak and starving for mercy
sleep has left me alone
to carry the weight of unravelling where we went wrong
it's all I can do to hang on
to keep me from falling
into old familiar shoes

[Chorus]
how stupid could I be
a simpleton could see
that you're no good for me
but you're the only one I see

love has made me a fool
it set me on fire and watched as I floundered
unable to speak
except to cry out and wait for your answer
but you come around in your time
speaking of fabulous places
create an oasis
dries up as soon as you're gone
you leave me here burning
in this desert without you

[Chorus]

everything changes
everything falls apart
can't stop to feel myself losing control
but deep in my senses I know

[Chorus]

Poll-itics

OK, first of all, thanks to those of you that voted for the calling of old flames.  Still undecided, but I'll keep you posted.  Now I thought I'd stir it up a bit with the Presidential Poll at left...Let me know what you think.

Family

Isn't it funny how there's no one in the world that can make you happier or more frustrated than people in your family?  Maybe funny is the wrong word, though.  Emotional, angry, happy, elated, frustrated, furious...take your pick.  It's amazing that the mountain tops aren't full of  people that just can't take it anymore?  Does any one have a sunny mountain top for rent?

OK, so the jokes are near and dear to my heart...that's the childish side of a sense of humor that is usually quite dry.  I just couldn't resist.  My friend with the lego-creating CEO let me know that they are touring the Lego sculptures around the different divisions of her company, to show them off...If you thought it was bad that they did it in the first place, imagine touring them around...Yikes!
